Why should Catholics Receive the Sacrament of Confirmation?
Confirmation is necessary to complete the baptismal grace, the gift of divine life that God intends for every human person. The effect of Confirmation is a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
Confirmation:
- Roots us more deeply in our relationship with God
- Unites us more firmly with Christ and reminds us that every sacrament we receive is an encounter with Jesus himself
- Increases in us the gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, counsel, knowledge, piety, fortitude, and fear of the Lord
- Strengthens our bond to the Church
- Gives us strength to spread and defend the faith by word and deed
Baptized Catholics who have graduated from high school but have not received the sacrament of confirmation should contact Ann Cook in the parish office.
Our confirmation preparation process for high school students may begin as early as their freshman year, and no later than their junior year. The program, in accordance with Archdiocesan requirements, is a two year process. Candidates for confirmation will learn about the Church, develop faith formation skills, and participate in retreats and service opportunities - and they'll have fun in the process.
Requirements:
- Candidates' parents must be registered members of our Parish.
- Participation in the celebration of the Eucharist every weekend is required and participation in parish functions is expected. A sign-in sheet will be available at each Mass
- To receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, one must be in the state of grace. Candidates are encouraged to receive the Sacrament of Penance frequently throughout the preparation period.
- Involvement in TYME, which meets on Sunday evenings, or attendance at a Catholic high school is a requirement for all confirmation candidates.
- Additionally, attendance and participation with Host family groups is mandatory. Each candidate will be assigned to a host family at registration.
- Each candidate must complete 40 hours of Service Ministry.
- Attendance at both Confirmation Retreats is required.
- An interview with a Priest or Deacon will be scheduled at the end of Year 2.
- We must have a copy of the candidate's Baptismal Certificate on file.
