Eucharistic Adoration - Individuals are encouraged to sign up to pray with the Blessed Sacrament in the daily Mass chapel on the first Friday of each month. Adoration is also available every Friday during Lent.
Liturgy Committee - Members of the liturgy committee are volunteers who assist with the implementation of parish liturgies by decorating the church for Christmas and Easter.
Altar Society - Every woman of the parish is automatically a member of the altar society. This group provides the supplies needed for Mass, including hosts, candles, wine and vestments. They host monthly coffee and donuts after Mass and various other receptions throughout the year. They also prepare funeral dinners and make contributions to area charities.
Nursery Volunteers - A nursery is available during the 10:30am Mass on Sundays, for children age 6 months to 3 years. Volunteers are needed to staff the nursery on a rotating schedule.
Liturgical Ministers Lector - The lector proclaims the Word of God at Mass. The special gifts and skills of the lector draw everyone into the scriptures.
Altar Server - The various tasks of the altar server include assisting with the book of prayers when the presider needs to read from it, helping to set the altar with the bread and wine, and carrying the candles, incense and processional cross. In order to become a server a person has to have received the sacraments of baptism, reconciliation, and Eucharist and be in at least the fourth grade.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion - Appointed by the pastor and commissioned by the Archbishop, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion help distribute the Body and Blood of Christ to the faithful at Mass. They also take the Eucharist to parishioners who are ill or homebound.
Usher/Greeter - It is the ministry of the usher/greeter to welcome people warmly; to introduce new parishioners to the priest; to pass out bulletins, pledge cards and other materials when needed; to take up the collection; to assist in any emergencies; and to help maintain good order at Communion.
Music Ministry
Adult Choir - The adult choir leads the assembly in sung prayer each week, primarily at the 10:30 AM Mass on Sundays. The adult choir also sings on major feast days like All Saints, Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter. Regardless of past experience or training, if you love to sing, please consider joining the adult choir. The adult choir is open to individuals willing to make a commitment of their time and talent, including committed high school students in 11th or 12th grades.
Resurrection Choir - The Order of Christian Funerals states that "Music is integral to the funeral rites... [and] whenever possible, even a choir should assist the assembly's full participation in singing the songs, responses, and acclamations of these rites" (OCF #30, 33). The resurrection choir is open to anyone who feels called to minister to grieving families through music. This choir rehearses once per month, and the repertoire is not difficult.
Handbell Choir - Handbells, though made of many parts, are considered one instrument with many players. If you can read music, or at least have good hand-eye coordination, the handbell choir might be what you're looking for. The handbell choir rehearses each week and plays at major feasts such as Christmas and Easter. It is open to individuals willing to make a commitment of their time and talent, including committed high school students in 11th or 12th grades.
Children's Choir - The parish children's choir is open to all children of the parish in grades 2 to 6. At this time the children's choir leads sung prayer and praise at the early Christmas Mass. Watch the bulletin for rehearsal times.
Instrumentalist - If you play an instrument, please consider sharing your gift of music with the assembly. Contact the Music Director if you are interested in joining the SJN Instrumental Ensemble. This ensemble is also open to high school musicians who participate in their school's band program.
